Hey June! I’ll try my best to help you out.

1. You would just have to go through immigrations and from there, if I’m not mistaken, you could just take the stairs up to the international departure area.

2. You would have to go to the counter in the public area to check-in and get the boarding pass, you’ll have to pass through customs. No extra fee should be charge.

3. The stay shouldn’t be too bad, as there are many shops and restaurants. If you would really want accommodation, a good option would be Pay Purix Backpackers Hostel, located 1km from the hostel, with a 12 bed dorm costing around $7.50 per night with 24 hour check-in. The only problem is that upon exit of the airport, you would have to pay to re-enter.

Hey Melanie! That should be more than enough time as it shouldn’t be too busy. Hope you have a safe flight!

We’re flying Avianca from La Paz to Lima 7:56 – 9:05 a.m. We’re then flying LATAM from Lima to NYC leaving at 12:20 p.m. Is that enough time to exit customs re-enter security, etc? Is the Lima airport busy at that hour of the morning?
Thank you.
Melanie

By reading the messages, we know this is the right website to ask the questions.

We are flying from US to Argentina soon: arrive LIM airport at 1am by Air Canada, then flight to Argentina EZE at 10:40am by Avianca. We booked tickets separately and Avianca ticket include US$30.74 HW tax which I assume that is the LIM airport fee. Our question are:

1. If we print out the Avianca boarding pass before leaving home and no check in luggage, can we directly go to the international gate without going through the migration and custom control?

2. If we cannot have the Avianca boarding pass with us and need check in at LIM airport, then we must go through the migration and custom control. But we should not pay the LIM airport fee because it is already included in the Avianza ticket. Is this right?

3. How is stay in international boarding area from 2am to 10am? Which near by hotel or hostel are safe and not expensive ? How to take a secure taxi going there(we’ll not have cell phone to call hotel that time)?

Thank you in advance!

Hey Dallas, you got it all right! This would be the process (just adding a few details):
1. Migration control
2. Baggage claim
3. Customs
Theses steps of the process above could take from 30mins-1hour depending on the time. It shouldn’t be a hassle though.
4. Go to LATAM’s counter where he will check-in (if possible, check-in online 24 hours before the flight just to save a couple of minutes), get his boarding pass and check his bag. The counter will be just a couple of meters from international arrivals exit, it’s just a straight walk from there.
5. Once, that’s done, he’ll have to go to the 2nd floor where he’ll have to pass security/customs. It is located near the food court, if you follow the path it should be before the food court. As he passes through, the left side is for international and the right side is for domestic (he’ll have to go through there).
6. At this point, he’ll be inside where he’ll be able to wait by his gates or maybe grab a snack in the snack bar.
Hope this helps, if you have any further questions just let me know! I wish your step-son the best time in Iquitos, he’ll definitely enjoy it!

I have wheelchair assistance for him during his time with American Airlines but once in Lima I think they will only take him as far as migration control. I am still trying to arrange assistance for him at the Lima Airport to get him to his next flight. In case I can’t get that lined up, I want to be sure he does this correctly. He is flying from Colorado Springs (COS) to Lima (LIM) on American Airlines, then from Lima (LIM) to Iquitos (IQT) on LATAM Airlines. He will have 1 checked bag. So when he lands at LIM he goes through migration control, then he goes to baggage claim, then to customs. Then he has exit the secured area to find the LATEM counter to check in, get his boarding pass and check his bag for the LIM to IQT flight. Then he goes through security and customs to get to his boarding gate. Is this correct or are there fewer steps than this? Thank you for helping me be sure I set him on the right path and thanks for the great article!!

Hey Mary Ann! I would strongly recommend spending your time in Miraflores since you will be in Lima for practically 2 days, the area around the airport doesn’t have much to offer. As for storing luggage, most places will allow you to store luggage after check-out for free while others might charge a small fee. Make sure to ask upon arrival to avoid confusion later on but it should be no problem. Hope you and your family have a great time here in Lima and Cusco!

After spending time in the Sacred Valley and Cusco, we would like to have a little time in Lima before returning to the US. My plan is to book a morning flight from Cusco, arriving in Lima between 9:00 and 11:00, see some sights and stay one night. Our return flight to the US leaves at 23:45, so we could have another full day in Lima. My question is should we head to a Miraflores hotel because that’s where the restaurants, etc are located, or should we stay nearer to the airport? Will most hotels store our luggage after we check out so we can enjoy our day in lima and collect it before going to the airport? Thanks!

Hey Jose, in terms of staying at the airport, there’s usually no problem with finding a spot to have a rest altough some spots are prohibited. As for a hotel/hostel close by, there’s the Costa del Sol Wyndham hotel right outside the airport building, but it is really expensive. The other option would be Pay Purix Backpackers Hostel, located 1km from the hostel, with a 12 bed dorm costing around $7.50 per night. We strongly advise to take a secure taxi if you were to choose the hostel option. Hope this helps!
